Existing home sales continue to trend up in December, with the eight-county Philadelphia region and the rest of the United States recorded modest gains monthly and year-over-year.

Sales in the region was 5.3 per cent higher in December from November and 4.8 per cent over December 2010, Prudential Fox

Existing home sales nationwide is 5 percent higher in December from November and 3.6 per cent in the December 2010, the National Association of Realtors said.

The average price of the area is 1.5 percent below November and down 6.3 per cent from the previous year. Nationally, the average price is 2.5 percent lower than December 2010.

Association of Realtors chief economist Lawrence Yun called early signs of what may be a number of sustainable recovery.
